vintage is so last year.. [14 Dec 2003|01:25pm]
[ music | the death of anna karina - untitled ]

Yesterday was hot stuff. we had practice and wrote a new intro song. We all like it a lot. Well Billy hasnt heard it yet, but he better like it a lot.

We went to Target so matt and paul could try on girl pants. Matt ended up buying a hot girl track jacket, and we all got gloves. My gloves are Blue with electric green grippy things, With a picture of a basketball hoop on them and it says "SLAMMIN!" Paul's say "Playin Hoops!" on the index and middle fingers.

Then we went to KFC and ate the worst chicken strips ever. Sickening, honestly.

On the ride home perrin and I were like "damn I want to practice again really bad, too bad matt's parents are home" but when we got there, it turned out they were at the SIMON AND GARFUNKEL concert, so we had a late-night practice. We shut off all the lights except for Perrin's green strobe and rocked out with our proverbial cocks out.

At which point we went to get drinks at t&t and ended up buying candy cigarettes. we drove around all night talking about what boys we like and what we're wearing to prom. (not true, but it was close to that level of gayness)

I ran into Mrs. Pisani at Target. She's the mother of this kid I went to school with in 8th grade. when I turned around and ran into her, I was wearing this really lame hat as a joke and it was tres embarassing. She was looking pretty hot, actually. considering she's probably in her late 40s early 50s.

I just won this on ebay

the entire walk way from the train to school is one huge fucking puddle. I hate it.

I had work today. The store was fucking empty all day. We just walked around the store trying to help people, but no one needed help when we asked. Someone spilled a bottle of Joe Perry's Hot Sauce! and the entire store smelled like spices and herbs for the rest of the day. Once the shipment came in (6:30) we got to work on it, but I got off at 7 so I didnt do much with it.

This new book came in today called "NOTHING FEELS GOOD: A History of Indie Rock and Emo" or something. we read a few pages and had a good laugh.

next week I'm working 4 days in a row. crazy. I'm tired after one day.

this really annoying girl came in today talking about how much she likes "Ben Gillard" from death cab for cutie. then she walks over and buys The photo album. her backpack had like.. her favorite bands white outed on it. including the mars volta. ick. Also a skeevy old man was staring intently at the Nude Madonna calendars.

In the cafeteria at school, we have these new reclining chairs. there's only 2 of them, so during 8th period free I ran to the caf to steal one for myself. they are so comfortable.

usually its less than 10 minutes to get from the train station to my house but because NO ONE SHOVELS ANYTHING and because CARS SUCK, it takes me 27 minutes to get home upon reaching home, I find a 2 foot pile of snow in the driveway, left by a bulldozer/plow/something which I have to shovel.

On the train, at the Chelsea stop, this mother and her 4 year old son get on. She puts her son next to me, while she sits like 12 feet away. He proceeds to put his sopping wet feet all over my legs. then he starts poking me and asks me what I'm listening to. So I let him listen to Saetia for 10 seconds before he decided he hated saetia. and he hated me.

Every time I do my english homework (95% of the time), my teacher doesn't collect it. But every time I dont do my homework, she collects it. fucking whore.

I'm working thursday and friday from 3:30-7:30. things promise to be hot.

Billy Deeb is going to Maine this weekend. We're practicing nonetheless. to prepare for the almighty Cambridge show. Which EVERYONE is going to. EVERYONE. 3 dollars folks. free drinks baby.

I just took a really long nap. I was wearing a shirt and a hoodie and long pants and had the covers on. it was so warm and I listened to Carissa's Wierd as I fell asleep. It was really the most comfortable nap I can remember.

I have this terrible feeling that I've forgotten something really important.. but I'm sure it cant be that important..

I went on a downloading binge today, getting cds+eps+demos from: bright calm blue, dismsmberment plan, dear diary I seem to be dead, helen of troy, my lai, still life, carissa's wierd, and the unicorns. fun times.

Every personality test I take online tells me I'm narcissistic.

just fucking bury me (IN SNOW!!!!!) [07 Dec 2003|02:29pm]
[ music | THERE WERE WIRES - THE PHYSICS OF AIR HOCKEY!!!!!! ]

So yesterday, I woke up and my mom was all "I'M NOT DRIVING YOU TO WONDERLAND" so I was like "OKAY" and went ouside and shovelled for a while. then she comes out and was like 'GET DRESSED I'M DRIVING YOU TO WONDERLAND" and I was like "OKAY". so I got dressed, and went to winthrop.

Whilst getting out of Matthew's car, my back pocket got ripped by something. This became a HUGE rip all the way down to the back of my knee during band practice. I only had these pants, for what would be 2 days in winthrop.

Practice: we wrote a HOT new song. I like it a while lot. Finally we have a good song to open with.

Then we ordered a pizza. After doing so, we called up to order another one so they could add it to our order, but they ALREADY SENT THE FIRST ONE! so we made the guy send us another one anyway. Five minutes later, we called up and asked to add a coke to that order. They were mad at us, and because no one ever wants to pay for fucking anything, we only tipped him like 25 cents for the second run. I felt bad, but blamed my lack of readiness on the dog who was valiantly attempting to scurry to the winter wonderland that was Matt's front yard.

So we eat the pizzas, and play this crazy ass wrestling video game from like 1998 for like an hour. Then perrin was all "I NEED TO DIG MY CAR OUT OF THE BANK PARKING LOT, YOU BITCHES!!" so we all dug out matt's car to drive to perrin's car. PS - at this point, the hole in my pants was GAPING and snow was all over my ass/leg.

We get to Perrin's car and dig it out with ease, but Matt got stuck while we were there, so he redlined it up and we got out, without injury, except for the bunk ass smell of burning rubber.

Then we dropped Perrin's car off at this place and we all went back to matt's, not realizing that if we dropped Perrin's car off, there would be no way to get anyone home except for Matt, who didnt want to drive at all.

We put our worries aside and played the wrestling game for another hour and a half, and then Matt's dad, the trooper that he is, drove everyone (except me) home.

So today I woke up and my mom called and was like "THERE'S 30 INCHES OF SNOW I CANT PICK YOU UP FOR HOURS!!" so I was like "fine, I'll just go into boston and take the commuter rail out"

So she calls back 10 MINUTES LATER and says "dad got his car out, we're leaving now" so I got a ride to wonderland with matt + his dad. Matt's dad let him drive around the wonderland parking lot so he could spin out and stuff, it looked like fun to me.

Then we got home, I found out that Boston Public has no school tomorrow, which means BC High has no school tomorrow. I celebrated by drinking a hearty glass of egg nog, and going outside to shovel 30 inches of snow for 2 hours.

Anyway. today was the first day of work for me. I had a really good time. One of my co-workers almost OVERDOSED ON ROBITUSSIN. She's crazy/hilarious. The people there remind me a lot of Nick Curran. Futurama/Family Guy quotes, and similar jokes to the type Nick and I have during our free periods together.

I was supposed to go to winthrop tonight, but Matt did "badly" on his progress report, so he didn't want me there while his parents verbally abused his sloth.

I was getting food while my mom stayed in the car, and I was in there for a while cause they were out of something, and I come back and my mom's like "Rory, they just played Death Cab for Cutie on FNX, and after I switched to BCN and they had The Postal Service".
What the hell? all I ever hear in the car is that fucking song by Jet.

Apparently Orion isnt playing the dec 22nd show??? boooooo

[ music | desert city soundtrack - murder hearts ]

so yesterday was Chris Linde's last day at BC High. On his way out, he managed to steal a cafeteria chair. Godspeed, Chris Linde. Godspeed...

there's a Wolves/Transistor Transistor/Querencia show on december 20th. Please, go to it. It's going to be way fun.

Tomorrow I have work. Afterwards, I'm going to winthrop and I'm staying at Matt's. Saturday, some westford boyzz are coming to winthrop to hang out. There's supposed to be a huge snowstorm too. so maybe we'll all get trapped in Matt's basement. And we'll have to live off of canned food and bottled water.

Tommy's Denali shirt came today. its a Youth Medium instead of an Adult Small though, so Elise gets it.

Desert City Soundtrack is so good. the new cd is definitely worth buying. so do it, bitches.

Yesterday in English, we were talking about this sonnet where the author mentions "wooing" someone. and some kid asked what "wooing" meant, and this other kid answered "Its what you do so you can tap that!" and our teacher, a 24 year old woman, laughed and didnt find anything bad with it. Today she came in and she was like "So my husband explained to me the actual definition of "tapping that" last night... I felt so embarassed asking and even more embarassed when he told me"

good times.

Steph and Rachel went back to school today. I hung at Rachel's dorm for a few hours and then headed home.

at north station, I see a familiar face walking towards me. I recognized it as TRAVIS SHETTEL FROM PIEBALD. I was like "WHOA. TRAVIS" but not out loud. He was buying tickets for the Downeaster train to Portland Maine. He then proceeded to linger near me for a while, and then my train was called. I didnt talk to him. I'm mad at him for cancelling that show we were supposed to play with Piebald..

We have a show at the All Asia Cafe in Cambridge on December 22nd. with the red invasion and possibly Orion.

tonight was the big Nashua NH show. hot times.

Steph and I went to pick elise up, but people at her house were like "SHE ISN'T HERE. SHE LEFT" so we were like 'FUCKING WENCH!' and left.

We got to Winthrop and had a breif practice. Elise called and was like 'PEOPLE IN MY HOUSE ARE HOZ! I WAS NEXT DOOR!!' so she came to winthrop and we loaded all the shit into cars.

Elise and Steph never stopped giggling...

We drove to Westford to meet up with the crew of: Rachel, Tommy, Tom, Matt Abbot, some girl, and two random guys...

Then it was Wendy's. I gave steph my sandwich to hold while I waited inside for Matt who was getting his dad some food. I came out to find HALF OF MY WILD MOUNTAIN CHICKEN SANDWICH HAD BEEN EATEN. I was so mad. I was looking forward to gorging on it, as I hadnt eaten all day.

Then we get to the show, and the craziness starts.

The guy there is like "you guys arent orion. you cant play" and we're like 'WE DROVE FOR AN HOUR AND A HALF TO GET HERE' and he's like "fine, who's the singer?"

so I talked to him and he told me that he needed to see our lyrics before we could play... WE DONT HAVE LYRICS FOR THE MAJORITY OF OUR SONGS so I had to write bullshit for 2 and a half songs. I got total writers cramp.

Apparently "drifters" club is wicked christian. There was Norma Jean and Beloved memorabilia everywhere. then we go to the actual club part, and there's a huge mural that says JESUS IS MY LORD. at which point I died laughing.

so we played our little set. Tom and Anthony came on "stage" with us and screamed during the last song, titled "A Glowing Piece of that Radical Rock" and all was well.

Then club owner guy says we cant leave until we watch the next band play. the next band was a bad Pop-punk band called NINE PIN. However, steph and I managed to make it interesting. We invented DRUMSTICK DANCING. where two people hold a drumstick and use it as their main medium for movement, it ends up being really fun and dancey, with hilarious results.

so then we drove home and all was well...

Rachel and Stephanie are home!!! yay!!!

Yesterdaywe had practice, and then planned on going to westford for the big Clit! Clit! Clitoris! show but matt's dad and billy's dad were like "no!"

Billy got into a huge phone argument with his dad, which culminated in his dad saying "I'm packing your suitcase now, you're out of the house!" and billy responded with "I'd just be like Eff That! Happy Thanksgiving! and kick him in the face"

So instead we went to guitar center, where matt and I rocked out on keyboards for literally an hour and a half. Then Paul decided he was going to buy some pedal thing, and had to drive back to winthrop to get his money. This left matt and I alone playing keyboards, and guitar, and electric drums.

Also, I have basically never picked up a guitar in the last 5 years, but yesterday I picked up matt's at practice and the first thing I hit ended up being the Circle Takes The Square intro he's been trying to play for weeks. I am awesome.

So anyway, after guitar center, we peed outside in the bushes. Then headed to friendly's.

Billy spilled a drink and got orange soda all over Paul's girl jeans. Matt was sad because he has this thing about ordering the same food as other people, and the two things he wanted were being ordered by other people.

Then I came home and hung out with Rachel for a while, listening to the dane cook cd and such.

All the food scent rises to this room, and it smells so good. I cant wait for mashed potatoes.

I was supposed to start work on Friday, but I cancelled it for the show, which now MIGHT NOT EVEN BE HAPPENING! fucking grr.

tomorrow, I have to go to LYNN ENGLISH to get my working permit. I cant imagine this being very fun.

Also tomorrow. xyz practice, and the clit!clit!clitoris! show in westford. hopefully both of those will go over smoothly

construction has started at school big time. so now only like 3 doors in the entire school are functional, which means every 40 minutes, for 5 minute intervals, 1300+ kids are trying to cram their way through these three doors in order to get to class relatively on time. this has also led to me wandering around and taking my sweet ass pimp time and blaming my tardiness on traffic in the doorways.

Friday:

I got a job at Newbury Comics. Then I proceeded to sit at home all night watching Comedy Central's Friday Night Standup

saturday afternoon:
XYZ recorded practice with Matt's camera. We got some hot footage of asses and such for the first couple songs, and them there was actual full band footage for the rest of it. Matt's editing that all up so we can put videos on the site I guess. It will suffice for mp3s.

Saturday Night: Thursday/Thrice/Coheed

The Arrival:

We arrive to see a line almost around the block, from Avalon, which Is basically in the MIDDLE of landsdowne street. huge fucking line. About 30 kids had the Give Up the Ghost zip-up hoodie that just says GHST on it and I was tres envious. we walk past XbenX who says "do you remember me from the last show??" to which I reply "NOOOO!"

We pass Jenn and Rachel, who are apparently waiting for their friend who has their tickets. Then we go inside, through this flourescent pink lit room with mirrors EVERYWHERE. They totally renovated the inside of the Avalon. it looks like a Skyy Blue comercial.

Coheed:
surprisingly good. Their first song was this new song, a 9 minute long epic featuring "oooh oooohs" and such. good stuff. the other new songs they played sucked though. They did the old songs really really well.

Thrice:
worst.band.ever.
I left after their first song to go hangout in the cool Skyy Blue comercial area and ran into Rachel and Jenn. Their friend apparently never showed up, so they snuck in with the merch guys. Note: this show has been sold out for weeks and people were paying like 60 bucks for tickets outside.

Anyway, we hang out there trying to ignore the horrific sounds of thrice playing the same song 13 times.
apparently Bill, who met thrice at the acoustic in-store earlier in the day, got to stand on the side of the stage for their set which I guess was cool for him.

also during thrice, bought my hottt new thursday hoodie. very exciting.

Thursday:
teh pwn.

so good. so, so good. Geoff's dancing was INCREDIBLE. he did that crazy elbow thing a lot, and there was lots of mic spinning/swinging/hanging himself/etc

Setlist: For The Workforce, Drowning, Paris In Flames, Understanding in a Car Crash, Between Rupture and Rapture, How Long is the Night, Marches and Manuevers, Cross Out the Eyes, Signals Over the Air, Steps ascending, This Song Brought to You By a Falling Bomb, Division Street. encore: War All The Time, Autobiography of a Nation. Also add Jet Black New Year in there somewhere

very very hot. I was on my way to the pit when, from the corner of my eye I spot this long open passage that led me like 10 feet from the stage with a perfect view of the band, so I attacked and stayed there instead of moving back to the pit, which was way in the back, and seemingly non-existant to me most of the time.

During Jet Black New Year, they released a ton of confetti. which was awesome. the crowd seemed to react to thursday way more than they did to thrice. which probably has something to do with thrice being the most boring live band of all time.

today I totally lost my Precalc book, only to find it later on in my english class. needless to say, I was extremely excited, as now I wont have to spend 100 dollars on a precalc book.

we're recording on saturday, supposedly. apparently some people of the westford/orion crew are coming to watch us... record.... whatevz it will be fun and tommy is giving me a haircut.

there are construction guys EVERYEWHERE I GO now. at school, the huge-ass year long project has just begun, and outside of my humble abode at two-one-six eastern ave, they're doing road work. I'm so sick of orange vests.

sean na na is still incredible.

today I realized that every song by The Bled sounds exactly the same. and that I'm madly in love with them, so it doesnt even matter. they picked a fucking good song to play 10 times.

jay from the thursday board sent me this INCREDIBLY HOT faint shirt. it has an upside-down globe with a girl crying in horror in front of it. and other crazy shit going on. I was supposed to send him one of my blood brothers shirts, but I lost it. so I sent him 10 bucks instead

the orchid hoodie thang isnt happening cause the person who makes them doesnt take paypal. lame. however, my orchid shirt auction on ebay is looking good. 19 hours left. I'm still way in da lead.

so the show was a success I suppose. minor tech problems, but whatever. we overcame. HARD!

orion was wicked good. they used the microphones this time, and it made a huge difference.

on saturday I was walking in winthrop to meet up with danielle and billy, and I see this squirrel standing still on the sidewalk. as I approach it, I realize it is not alive. its a DEAD SQUIRREL PERFECTLY PRESERVED without any form of visible wound. I stared at it for like 3 minutes, then left it there... unsolved mystery.

hung out with billy and danielle for a while before we went to billy's brother's house. it was someone's birthday party. billy's brother is the manager of the newbury comics in gov't center. I talked to him about possibly working there this holiday season.

that night matt and I bought 20 dollars worth of chinese food. (I paid like 7, matt paid 13) and everyone else ate it. everyone left wicked early and we went to bed because we had to wake up at 7 on sunday.

so I told matt that I could set my brain to wake me up before his dad woke us up. and bam! at 6:57, I wake up. literally one minute before the "MAAAAATTT!" yell began from downstairs. I'm awesome.

so we went to the show and after a lot of bullshit rules and line-waiting and more rules and more line waiting, we finally got our stuff settled in. stephanie and stefanie drove from New york to come to the show. apparently they got a speeding ticket on the way there.

first band we saw: goth kids. 2 singers. one male, one female. they did a medley of radioxcore stuff (system of a down, korn, nirvana, white stripes)then they went into the good stuff. this horrrrrible growl complimented by an off key "singing" noise from the girl with purple hair and purple pleather pants. so gross.

after a few more horrible bands, we played. and obviously rocked the house. yem broke a string but we worked around it. we also worked around the sound people changing the volume of the vocals and instruments mid song. fucking lame.

so after us, orion played. and after they played, we all went home. I was so tired, so I went to bed at 8 oclock.

so then this morning comes around and we go to the train station and we see that "the train departing from rockport at 6:10 will be 15-20 minutes late" my mom and I assumed this was the train I normally take, so she brought me home so my dad could drive me to wonderland. he decides, "hey, I dont have to do that, I'll just drive him down the street in 10 minutes"

we get there, and apparently my train WAS slightly late, but only by a few minutes. so I had missed it. the train that was going to be 20 minutes late was the train that's 20 minutes later than my usual one. this makes me 40+ minutes later than I usually am, and inable to do all my homework before school like I usually do. wicked lame.

apparently Jay Costa has been talking some smack about the xyz affair (despite having never heard us) and about my musical tastes specifically. note: this kid like phish and dave matthews band. so I confronted him about it today, and he totally played it off like a joke. I'll get to the root of this sometime this week... believe me.
